Over the past few weeks I have been working on my GAME plan. GAME plan is a self directed learning approach created by Cennamo, Ertmer, and Ross (2009). My GAME plan consists of two goals that I have been working towards. The first goal was to create a blog on my schools website and the second was to teach my students how to successfully use technology that relate to real world experiences.
I have spent several hours working to accomplish my goals. This experience has helped me see the need to be proficient in technology. When I first started this program through Walden I was intimidated the first time the assignment was to create a blog. I soon overcame my fears and realized I needed to embrace technology in order to be able to teach students in the best possible way and help them be successful when they enter the working world.
My greatest challenge has been finding time to meet with the technology department to get approval to continue with my blog. I will continue pursuing this goal until it is either completed or I am told I can't because of district policies. I do believe that after the holidays I will see progress in this goal.
My second goal has been somewhat successful because I have been able to plan with fellow colleagues to integrate real-world activities into the curriculum. However, doing so can be very overwhelming and time consuming.
To further improve my proficiency in technology I will continue to collaborate with my colleagues and share what I learn as I continue my journey of education.

I understand that it can be difficult to implement a plan once you have created it. For example, trying to contact the IT department to get approval for a blog. Hang in there and with time you will complete what you have started. Also, it may be a good idea to take notes about the process you are taking to set up a blog just in case you want to help other professionals in your school district set up their own blogs.
ReplyDeleteGayla Fisher,
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you have a very similar GAME plan to what I am working towards accomplishing. I have been putting together a class website using my school district’s website program called SWIFT. The website provides its users with the ability to begin a discussion thread. My hope was to start using the discussion thread as a way to help my fourth graders communicate both within and outside of the school setting. Unfortunately, my district has blocked access to several of the blogging websites that we have explored throughout this ITC program. I am unable to use the blogspot.com site. For now, I will rely upon the discussion board setting on my website.

Brian,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your encouragement. I certainly plan to keep on working towards my plan. I'm sure it's just matter of time and patience.
Kevin,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comments. After reading a number of our cohorts plans, I found that several of us are working towards creating blogs in the classroom or building a website. It also seems as though we are all hitting road blocks. With enough determination and persistence we will complete our GAME plans.
It is very frustrating trying to implement technology throughout a classroom or curriculum and having to go through so many hoops. Trying to get things approved seems to take so long in my district that continuing to push through is half the battle. Good luck and keep it up!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you have been able to overcome your fears and begin to accomplish your GAME plan. I too have found time as a major challenge in completing my GAME plan. I have extended my time for completing my goal until after the holiday. My district has made recent changes that effect my GAME plan and I am currently seeking new ways to implement the goals. Planning with your colleagues is a great way to incorporate technology in a real world setting. I find that my co-workers are usually able to provide meaningful feedback and ideas that help clarify or answer my thoughts and questions. Best of luck as you continue to work toward your plan.
